Banjo Lineup

Please note that the descriptions below show peghead inlay that I have done in the past.  We like to say that “each Lee banjo is as unique as the musician who plays it”.  Some may be similar to what is described and some may be completely different.  The woods will vary, some will be natural and some stained.  The inlay size, artistic details & inlay colors will vary, making each one special.  Not a "cookie cutter" approach.  As a Artist I am very unlikely to be repetitious from banjo to banjo and month to month.  We are not a factory but a boutique or studio where banjos are created one at a time.  Each banjo is a part of me.  My wife and family help to make this possible.  We enjoy working together. See Tammy & I here.  Learn more about my family here and the rest of the family here.  Click the link to see  Standard FeaturesSound FilesOptions and  Warranty.  You can also see Happy Frailers, and Overview of serial numbers and year built.  Some one-off and custom banjos are available directly from our shop, see our For Sale page.

Model Description Vintage Original

Chautauqua

Chautauqua, The Silver Bell tone ring model.

An old "turn of the last century" peghead shape, changed, softened until it was my own.  Angels are an often reoccurring theme for me.  This time the Angel stands in the clouds reflecting the glory coming from the heavens.

Marble Falls

Marble Falls, The Tuba-Phone tone ring model.

A tapered peghead rounded at the top is the perfect compliment to the beauty of the Marble Falls lady.  She stands on a marble out-cropping with a large pot pouring water into a pool; the beginning of the falls.  This one was drawn for my wife, Tammy.  We talked about it for over a year.

Chalk Mountain, The Ebony tone ring model.

The peghead has an air of Royalty only fitting for a Wizard.  For thirty years I  have been a fan of the Lord of the Rings trilogy.  In my minds eye the White Wizard walks across the peghead.

Glen Rose

Glen Rose, The Electric (aka Whyte Laydie) model.

Somewhat reminiscent of our Dobson style peghead with a little crown added to the top.  The Angel in Flight while Blowing on a Trumpet is a favorite theme for me.

Prairieville

Prairieville, The Brass Hoop tone ring model.

Traditional banjo inlay, Texas style.  My brother (Leo F. Lee Jr., an advocate and my web site consultant) wanted a Classic look for his custom banjo and my art work focuses on people figures.  Blend the two and the traditional Flower Pot is born with a Chuck Lee twist.  Adorning the traditional flower pot is a Lady holding a pot.

Ovilla

Ovilla, The Classic Wooden tone ring in a beautiful package.

I have always loved the simple lines of this Dobson Style peghead and heel.  I patterned this one after an old Dobson banjo I bought that turned out un-restorable.  The theme for this banjo is the Girl sitting in the Moon.  This inlay has undergone several transformations.  They can be followed below.

Lone Star
Deluxe

Lone Star Deluxe, A Classic Wooden tone ring model.

This is our "work horse" banjo.  It's like the horse that a cowboy "really" rides, the one he chooses when it's time to get the job completed.  Ebony graces the clean peghead lines and fingerboard as well.  A Dobson style heel is the natural partner.  You can pick this one up from the corner and call it "Ol' Faithful".

Rose Hill

Rose Hill, A Classic (though simple) Wooden tone ring model.

All action without the glitter.  Gentle peghead lines covered with the simple beauty of Pau Ferro/Morado peghead overlay.  Pau Ferro/Morado on the fingerboard to match, the beauty speaks for itself.  No inlays are needed.  The neck joins the pot with a Dobson style heel.
