The Lee family talents are varied and unusual, with
music and art as intertwining themes. Do you want an abstract
art piece, some manga, henna or a tattoo? Someone here has you covered.
But music is the overriding presence, with many of the family learning or
proficient in an instrument, and listening interests which run the
full gamut. Almost. I don't think anyone has brought home any
"rap" yet.
| Chuck |
 |
Although building banjos require most of Chuck's time, sometimes he
emerges from the shop for other activities. He enjoys flower
gardening, reading, photography and art. He loves cats and they
love him. Browsing at the book store and a good cup of coffee
offer him a nice "mini-vacation". As Pawpaw of this growing
family, he is a "brick" to turn to for encouragement and guidance.
Most animals love him, and they are featured in
"the
rest of the Lee Family". |
| Tammy |
 |
It's a good thing Tammy likes to sand. She is
involved heavily in the finishing aspect of each Lee Banjo. She
also helps with parts production and paperwork. She has her own
personal table saw for making rim caps! Tammy enjoys praying for
the future owners of each Lee Banjo. When she is not working in
the banjo shop, she is involved home-schooling her children, helping
with her grandchildren, and now getting to know Nate's old mandolin.
When Nate gave her a lesson, she found out what an incredible teacher he
is. Soon she will be able to try tenor banjo, when Chuck completes
her new one, the first of a line. |
| Rachel |
 |
Our daughter Rachel lives nearby in Arlington, Texas,
with her husband Scott, and son Jayden, who was adopted from in
Guatemala. They are shortly bringing two more children to
the family from Liberia. Lillian, 7, who is deaf, and Micah,
4. To follow their adventures, their website/blog is
here.
Rachel is a gifted writer and Scott enjoys a job at "A World of Tile"
Company. |
| Brandon |
 |
Brandon and his wife Gabrielle live two houses away from
us right here in Ovilla. Nate was shocked when they bought a house
this close by. He said, "Haven't they watched Everybody Loves
Raymond?" Actually, for all of their failings, Chuck and Tammy are
pretty good at "supportive yet non-interfering parenting of adult
children". Brandon and Gabrielle are raising Christian, 4, and
have a new son, "in the oven", expected any day now! Brandon
is qualified as a journeyman plumber, tattoo artist, and casual guitar
player. Gabrielle is an RN, who plays guitar and sings frequently
and beautifully for their church. Her Dad has played resonator
banjo for years. What a match! |
| Nate |
 |
Nate calls Lyons, Colorado his home, but his travels
take him to festivals and workshops Regionally and beyond. After
spending his childhood locally immersed in music, and then 2 years of
music at South Plains College, he is now a member of the Alan Munde
Gazette, and a regular with Steve Smith's "Hard Road" band. He is
recording for both bands, with CD's soon to be released. Fiddle
and Mandolin are his strongest instruments, but it seems like he can
play them all. He has a special Banjo his Dad made for him, dubbed
the "Blue Dragon" by Wayne Shrubsall. Yes, it is blue. And
he plays it nicely. |
| Bonnie |
 |
At 16, Bonnie is artistic, fun and quirky.
Pause long enough and she'll paint some henna on your foot or hand.
She has just begun her first semester of community college. Nate
has encouraged her to pick back up her fiddle, and she is doing well.
She is also saving EVERY PENNY to buy a cello, her latest passion.
She loves travel and aspires to working in International Ministry. |
| Isaac |
 |
Isaac is 14, and has assembled almost every Chuck Lee
Banjo rim built. When he's not helping in the shop, he's writing
stories, doing his math and actually understanding it, or drawing great
Manga figures. He is inspired by Ocarina playing and is giving his
fiddle a break to pursue that variety of flute. He is also a great
Boy Scout, very active in community service. |
| Johnny |
 |
Now 12, Johnny is tackling guitar, both electric
and acoustic. His teacher says, "With a name like Johnny Lee, he
HAS to play well." He also enjoys Scouting, assisting at the Zoo
and drawing. He is popular among his friends and loves to watch
MASH reruns or British comedies. |
| Tate |
 |
Is a proud 8 and definitely a "herd animal". He
knows his weekday by "when he will see who". He will be starting
fiddle lessons again soon, (we certainly own a fiddle of every size for
his use), and is quite artistic, perhaps from watching his brothers.
He is also a big help with his nephews, who are not much younger than he
is! |
